Restaurants in Lille

On Wednesday night you are on your own to find food.

There are many restaurants in Lille. Google knows them all.

But here are some pointers.

First, don’t go to ``Assiette du Marche’’: that’s where the conference dinner takes place on Thursday. Try something else!

I would suggest going to the old city (Vieux Lille) and looking around there.

If you don’t want to think about it, go to the Rue de Gand. You will find 20 restaurants there. Walk around and choose. Don’t go in a group of 20. They are small places.

Some suggestions.

Estaminet ‘t Rijsel, Estaminet la Vieille : local cuisine.

Comptoir 44. Standard French cuisine. Not bad the last time I went.

A Taaable. New kid on the block. Supposed to be good. Hard to get in usually, a reservation is needed probably, but you can try.

Some other places, in the Vieux Lille or elsewhere throughout the city. All walking distance.

Cafe de la Paix or Chez Andre. Typical Parisian style brasseries with art deco type interior etc.

Les Moules. Well, if you like mussels, its a choice. They serve other seafood as well. Nothing spectacular but pretty good mussles.

Pizza. The place to be is Papa Raffaele. Napolitanean pizza is their claim to fame. You may stand in line for a bit, but not too long perhaps.

Les Trois Brasseurs. Right across from Lille Flandres. An institution in Lille. They brew their own beer. Basic food.

You are in France, so you can find good wine. You are close to Belgium, so you can find good beer. If you want to try a beer before dinner, ``La Capsule’’ is an option. You may find me there around 7pm...

Whatever you try, let me know what you think about it.

Bon appétit, Stephan.
